Vietnam's export turnover of footwear

Vietnam earned over 3.57 billion U.S. dollars from footwear export in the first 11 months this year, down 15.9 percent year-on-year, said a report of the General Statistics Office of Vietnam on Friday.

The country's footwear producers and exporters are facing hard competition from other foreign players from Brazil, India, Bangladesh and Cambodia, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam.

Moreover, the European Commission (EC) will put the proposal to a vote of member countries' ministers on the extension of dumping duties for 15 months more on leather shoes imported from Vietnam, according to the local newspaper Vietnam Economic Times on Friday.

The vote is expected to be held on Dec. 22 despite the rejection of the anti-dumping committee, an important trade body of EC, on the EC proposal, said the newspaper.

Vietnam is expected to rake in about 400 million U.S. dollars from footwear export in the last month this year, bringing total export turnover of the country's footwear sector this year to about four billion U.S. dollars, lower than the year's target of 4.7 billion U.S. dollars, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam.
