HA NOI — Viet Nam ranks second among footwear exporters to Spain after China, according to the Federation of Spanish Footwear Industries (FICE). The country exported 33.1 million pairs of shoes to Spain for 271.8 million euro in 2008, a year-on-year rise of 10.5 per cent in volume and 23.4 per cent in value. According to FICE, Viet Nam’s footwear accounted for 9.6 per cent of the volume and 14.6 per cent of the value of the southern European nation’s total imports. China continued to dominate the Spanish market last year with 243.6 million pairs of shoes valued at 613.7 million euro shipped to the southern European market. China’s footwear exports made up 70.6 per cent of the volume and 33 per cent of the value of Spain’s total imports. FICE statistics showed that Spain imported 345.03 million pairs of shoes worth more than 1.8 billion euro in 2008, a decrease of 2.2 per cent in volume, but an increase of more than 6 per cent in value. In addition to China and Viet Nam, Spain also imports footwear from Italy, Portugal, Indonesia, India, France and Brazil.
